Every Vagabond's suit comes with a backpack combining the player's life support with a limited inventory slot for materials and tools — the suit's built-in battery is recharged passively in sunlight, passively near bioluminescent plants, or by crafting additional batteries.

Three ways to recharge the suit
The suit's built-in battery can be recharged in three ways: by standing in sunlight (a small solar panel charges passively), by standing close to bioluminescent plants, or by crafting additional batteries. All three feed the same battery state, so the right pick depends on where you are when it runs low.
What the backpack also holds
The backpack holds a small reserve fuel container used to refuel Wasps in the field, and houses a jet pack that auto-converts atmospheric hydrogen gas into liquid hydrogen for short flights, with upgrades available for longer flight times. Together these turn the backpack into a small mobile supply node between islands.
Managing inventory against the Wasp and Cruiser
Inventory has to be actively managed against the Wasp's and the Cruiser's storage, because key tools and freshly extracted scrap compete for the same slots. If the suit's power ever drops to zero the life support itself goes down with it, so recharging sources should be kept in regular rotation during long expeditions — do not let the backpack sit at single-digit power on a long-haul flight.
